Love is an Open Door

love is an open doorIt’s winter break and let’s just say–I’ve been to a lot of movies as of late. A lot. Yep. I’ve walked with dinosaurs, saved Mr. Banks, and chilled (with my children) through a viewing of Frozen.

I’ve also downed a lot of popcorn, my share of milk duds, and have guzzled at least two liters of Dr. Pepper over this extended period of time as well. But I love going to the movies…especially when life lessons (and messages of hope) pop up when and where you least expect them to.

This past week, as I was holding my four year-old on my lap–with his two siblings beside me (in the midst of totally stuffing my face with popcorn), one of those infamously touching Disney ballad’s broke out. And it went a little something like this:

To the pain of the past

We don’t have to feel it anymore

Love is an open door

Life can be so much more

And that’s when it hit me.

You see, it’s the end of the year– a new one is about to begin, and most of us are finding ourselves in one of two places at this point: excited to see what the New Year will bring, or eager to get 2013 over and done with. Maybe we haven’t achieved all we’ve set out to do in the past 360+ days. Maybe trials have been endured, issues have transpired, and we’re ready to move on already.  However, no matter what space you’re in right now, each of us has the promise of hope–of what lies ahead. We have the future…and we have the love of our God to carry us through.

Because love is an open door.

Yep. No matter how bad things have gone this past year, or how much we’ve had to deal with…no matter how badly we may have messed up–love is an open door. Let me rephrase that—HIS love is an open door. Always there and just a knock away.

So as we prepare to end this year and start anew, I think this sweet song and the message it carries is so timely, don’t you? Because we don’t have to feel the pain of the past anymore. We can move on from whatever we’re going through, Amen?

With Him, life can be so much more.
